Hawaii: False Missle Threat
Hawaiians were ripped out of their morning routines around 8 a.m. Saturday morning, when they received a text message that read: “BALLISTIC MISSLE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.” Many people immediately went into panic mode and thought of a quick plan to get them and their loved ones into a safe place.

This alert turned out to be false, the alert was sent out during a shift change when an unnamed employee activated the live alert button at the state’s Emergency Management Agency. Ten minutes after the alert was sent out, the Emergency Management Agency had tweeted that it was a false alarm, but only a few people had gotten the notice. Forty minutes after the alert was sent out, then they sent out a text reading stating that it was a false alarm.

The Emergency Management Agency had accepted a resignation from the agency’s administrator, Vern Miyagi, who claimed responsibility for letting the false alert happen. The status of the employee who set off the alarm is unknown at this time, but the public assured that he will at least be reassigned to a different department, if not fired or forced to resign.

Lindsey Vonn Potentially Retiring
Olympic Skier, Lindsey Vonn, may be ending her career after this year’s Pyeong Chang Winter Olympic Games. The reason that she is ending her career, is due to “devastating injuries.” She has had more than a few reconstructive surgeries throughout the past few years. “I’m just counting on some ‘medical miracles’ to extend my career.” Vonn said in response to the situation. Broken bones are not the only thing skiers have seen this season; two elite skiers have also lost their lives in the process, two-time Olympian David Poisson and German Teenager Max Burkhart.

Vonn hopes to continue skiing but knows unless she is able to get a “Robo-knww,” it will be highly unlikely. She mentions, “if I could physically continue skiing, then I absolutely will, but at this point it takes a lot to make my knee good enough to ski downhill, it has to be pretty solid to push yourself at these speeds and be able to trust it.”
